Western Boone Jr./Sr. High School Solar Installation
Schmidt Associates’ mechanical engineers designed a solar thermal collector installation at the high school. The final installation of 40 collectors were placed on the roof of the school and collect approximately 880,000 BTUs of heated water. In turn, the water is used to heat the hot water coil for the pool air handling unit, the domestic hot water system for the school, and the pool water during daytime hours. When solar energy is not being used (in the evening or cloudy days), all systems have electric auxiliary backup power. The result is a highly efficient system, saving energy on a continuous basis.
