We design resilient, sustainable places that stand the test of time. Energy efficiency is a key component to this long-term success. Energy optimization keeps operational costs down for the Owner and reduces the resources a building consumes.
Our team of energy experts are integral to the building system design and implementation process, ensuring buildings meet high efficiency standards. They work with our architects to optimize design, help choose the most cost-effective and high-performing equipment, and work with Owners to secure the energy rebates they deserve for their efficient buildings. They also assist in implementing requirements for LEED or other green building certifications.
We also offer a variety of services to help Owners maintain—or assess and improve—energy efficiency across their existing facilities. This includes:

Energy Bill Review
Why? Energy Bill Review is a great place to start your journey to higher energy efficiency. This identifies “energy hogs” in an Owner’s portfolio with the greatest opportunity for savings.
How? We review one to two years of energy bills for your existing building(s). We calculate the Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of the building(s) and perform other data analysis to create a final report with our findings, recommendations, and proposed next steps.

Energy Audit
Why? An energy audit gives you a deeper understanding of the energy reduction opportunities in your facility. The process gives you information to budget and plan for energy efficient upgrades.
How? We walk through your building(s) and review the condition of your existing equipment, as well as facility operations. We make recommendations for improvements with estimated implementation costs. We also provide estimated savings as a result of improvements, estimated utility rebates available, and your overall return on investment. An analysis of your energy bills is included in the final report.

Utility Incentive Administration
Why? An incentive administrator is useful when multiple renovation, new construction, or system upgrade projects are happening across your facilities each year. This work likely qualifies for significant utility incentives (rebates)—from up to $50,000 to over $100,000 per project depending on scope. Many teams don’t have the capacity or experience to apply for them all, leaving money on the table.
How? We identify and secure the incentives from your local electric and/or gas company. We handle the process from start to finish, saving you time and maximizing the dollars you get back on each project. As your contracted incentive administrator, we submit applications on your behalf with no work required of you. The only thing you’ll have to sign is the endorsement on the rebate check!

Building Retro-Commissioning (RCx)
Why? Building energy usage can increase over time. Equipment ages and systems drift from original settings, causing energy consumption and operating costs to creep up. Performing RCx on any functioning building control system can return the building to its original design intent and expected energy usage.
How? We review your building’s HVAC and control system settings, as well as original design drawings, if available. We identify low- and no-cost improvements related to the control system to ensure peak energy performance. We will work with your team or contractor to implement these recommendations and make necessary adjustments to your system(s).

Energy Optimization
Why? You want your building to operate at maximum energy efficiency all the time. Optimization helps reduce your energy usage and ensure it continues to decrease or holds at an efficient level. It ensures your energy usage is continually monitored and tracked, and it demonstrates building performance through the Energy Star Portfolio Manager rating system.
How? Energy optimization services are similar to RCx but are provided over the course of a full year, or longer. The process starts with an energy audit and control system review. Together, we create an implementation plan for energy efficient investments over the course of the year (as funding is available) and optimize building performance. At the same time, we monitor the control system and energy bills monthly, so energy usage and costs continue to decrease or hold at desired levels.
