The world amounts to what the world amounts to because people pay it forward. All begins with Nature’s providence; we write the rest of the story.
Imagine how many shoulders each one of us stands upon. What gets created and what gets done that does not rely on what others have created or done before us? The beauty and joy of our “co-creation” is that our unique portion—contributed individually—finds exponential expression in the collective, particularly over time. Seeing the larger picture gives rise to true humility, true pride, and the recognition that we each matter very much.
What is the “it” you are paying forward? Your “it” will differ from mine and so will your “how”. Last month we considered how people pay it forward in time. Others pay it forward financially. Let’s face it: there’s a “green” component to the success of most any endeavor. Still others provide knowledge, ideas, and thinking skills. And what about those who connect people, organize, and instill culture so big things can happen that take many of us? Is that your “it”?
You cannot give my gift; I cannot give yours. When one person forfeits their opportunity, the gift is lost. Presidents are not the only one with legacies. Humanity is just as much yours and mine. Let’s invest!
“Providence has nothing good or high in store for one who does not resolutely aim at something high or good. A purpose is the eternal condition of success.”
—T.T. Munger
