As architects, we are constantly tasked with designing spaces that are accessible to everyone, but what does this really mean? Most of us have been fortunate to never live with a disability, so what can we learn from those who do? This session will review learnings from a new hotel project (Erskine Green Training Institute and Courtyard by Marriott – Muncie) that has an integrated training center for individuals with disabilities. Most of the learnings can be applied across many sectors of the design industry to create better more accommodating buildings. This class addressed constructability issues that can often challenge compliance with ADA requirements.
