Westfield Washington Schools Transportation Center
As Indiana’s fastest-growing school district, Westfield Washington Schools needs to expand its bus maintenance and storage facilities to accommodate the growth. The new 45,000-SF transportation center, primarily designed for Transportation Services, will also serve as a hub for district-wide professional development, enhancing the overall educational environment. The new building will significantly enhance operations, increasing bus maintenance bays from four to ten and providing dedicated support areas for staff, mechanics, and drivers. These areas will include a simulation lab, computer rooms, and a comfortable break area. Additionally, three large training rooms will be able to accommodate up to 200 people, facilitating large-scale professional development sessions.
The exterior architecture of the building will be comparable to other buildings in the district, with a similar architectural vocabulary of masonry veneer and brick banding. The new center will have bus parking for 177 and will be able to expand.
By using a geothermal system, the building will be able to save 27% on energy consumption over a traditional water-source heat pump system while also reducing carbon emissions by 32%.
