Schmidt Associates was commissioned to perform a facility condition assessment. The scope of the assessment included 15 buildings on the campus as well as the condition of the site itself. To begin, we had a team of architects and engineers walk the site and buildings looking at the interior and exterior systems to evaluate their conditions. Based on the age and condition of the building, this assessment identified certain recommendations as a high priority and those items need to be addressed in the near future. It also identified additional improvements that could be made in a multi-year maintenance plan or as part of a larger renovation project. Furthermore, the study can be a data point in the decision to demolish a building versus investment of funds into the building to make repairs and renovations. Early budgets were created for each potential phase of construction, using unit costs and square footage estimates as the cost basis. This data was used to develop a capital campaign as the next step of this planning process and set a roadmap for the next 10 years of deferred maintenance projects.
