Norwell Middle School

Schmidt Associates studied the condition and utilization of the existing Norwell Middle School. The resulting study found the physical condition of the building needed many repairs, and the inefficient layout of the school left little room for needed growth.

Using the information from the study, the corporation took on a major renovation that included demolition of a majority of the antiquated middle school educational spaces. A new addition consists of two new two-story academic wings designed to allow for future enrollment of 800 6th-8th graders. The new design also features current finishes and a media center with high-volume ceilings to flood the space with natural light, creating a community space for all users. Custom-painted supergraphics will be found throughout the new space boldly integrating the school’s branding.

The new cafeteria will serve as a mixed-use space to allow for eating as well as performances on the new stage within. The cafeteria also features a curtain wall that allows an abundance of natural light, easy access to the outdoors, and student access to the new courtyard and outdoor learning environment.
