Mary Castle Elementary had outgrown its building due to the growing student body and the ever-changing curriculum. To better utilize the current footprint of the building, new centralized restrooms and a new media center were built within the existing interior courtyards while the building was occupied. The cafeteria was expanded to maximize seating, serving as a multi-purpose room and bus loading/drop off. The kitchen also underwent a renovation to include a double serving line—condensing lunch periods to a timelier pace. A secure entry was created by relocating office space to the front of the building. The central boiler and chiller plant were replaced and upgraded for energy efficiency, and an antiquated ice storage system was removed from the site to free up extra playground space.
