In an effort to provide learning environments and equity between two high schools, Schmidt Associates led the district through a design process resulting in transforming the educational environment for both schools. When complete, the overall building footprints will be reduced to align with the school enrollment and educational programs. To reduce the footprint, the recommendation was made to tear down the antiquated and oversized sections of the facilities and build a new three-story classroom wing facing the community. The new classrooms are designed as innovation labs providing flexible space that can morph into project rooms. The additions also include stacked administration and guidance to create a vertical, yet secure, connection between the educational space and new front entry. Construction is phased in coordination around the educational needs of the students, as the facility is fully occupied until completion.
