Lawrence Central High School’s renovation and addition were part of Lawrence Township’s strategic effort to modernize both high school campuses while promoting equity across the district. Designed to mirror the transformation at Lawrence North, the project at Lawrence Central focused on replacing outdated infrastructure with right-sized, flexible spaces that support today’s learning needs. Schmidt Associates introduced a new three-story classroom wing that not only brings academic spaces up to modern standards but also gives the building a strong, community-facing presence. Aging, inefficient sections of the original structure were demolished, allowing the overall footprint to be reduced and aligned with current enrollment and educational programming.
The reimagined facility includes innovation labs, stacked administrative offices for secure vertical access, and updated support spaces—all designed to enhance student experience and campus flow. While not the project’s primary focus, a new natatorium was also added to meet competitive athletic needs and ensure parity with the adjacent high school. Construction was carefully phased to allow the school to remain occupied and fully functional throughout the process. The result is a refreshed Lawrence Central that stands as a true counterpart to Lawrence North—equal in quality, performance, and pride.
“Schmidt Associates brings a team that will listen and take pride in designing schools that fit the needs of students and staff alike. This company operates with a high level of integrity.”
