Looking to fully engage the HCSE, DePauw University wanted the integrated administrative center to embody their students’ diverse resumes. With this mission in mind, Schmidt Associates re-imagined it as a central, flexible space for students within the Memorial Student Union—the hub of campus. The newly created HCSE resides near the Offices of Academic Life and selected programs within the Division of Student Life, enabling a central and visible location. This space allows students to readily merge classroom and residential experiences with experiential learning and service learning opportunities, including space for accidental interaction, collaboration, meetings with faculty, career counseling, and on-campus interviews. The creation of a new outdoor plaza links the HCSE to other campus buildings, both aesthetically and physically.
