Schmidt Associates developed a replacement grief counseling facility built on the Ephraim McDowell Health campus. The new center is a comfortable space with calming colors, abundant natural light, and direct access to an outdoor healing garden and walking paths. It includes counseling spaces designed for individuals and groups as well as therapy rooms for young children and teens. The healing garden and walking paths help patients connect with nature during therapy. Additional spaces include a meditation room, art room, patio, library/resource area, break area for staff, and spaces to facilitate events with food and refreshments.
To enhance privacy, the facility features frosted glass, sound masking, and a floor plan that shields the line of site between different therapy areas. The Harshaw Family Grief Counseling Center is the first of three buildings to be constructed on the campus, which will also include a maintenance/storage building, inpatient care unit, and additional garden areas and walking paths.
