With the launch of Founders College, Butler envisioned a new kind of academic experience—one that offers high-quality, career-driven associate degrees with little to no student debt. But to bring this bold vision to life by fall 2025, they needed more than just a new curriculum, they needed a physical space that could embody the mission of access, support, and opportunity.
Schmidt Associates helped turn that vision into reality by reimagining an underused library and adjacent space inside the CTS building. In just a few months, we transformed it into a vibrant new home for Founders College, complete with flexible classrooms, inviting study areas, faculty offices, and even a local food pantry to meet students’ basic needs. Every design decision was made with the whole student in mind, ensuring the space would be as supportive as the wraparound services Butler plans to provide. With thoughtful architecture, engineering, and interiors working together, we created more than just a place to learn; we helped build a launchpad for students to succeed, grow, and change the trajectory of their lives.
