With an overarching goal of equity and equality for all middle school students in the district, MSD of Washington Township completed a two-phase addition and renovation to Eastwood Middle School. The extensive updates include relocated entries with secure administration areas. Grade-level pods are separated by an enlarged central stair with standard core classrooms, a “teacher think tank,” and large and small group instruction spaces. The extensive use of glass and light allows the students to feel more connected to the space and enhance collaboration. In addition to classroom improvements, a new serving line and cafetorium with a platform for performances was added. New site circulation enhanced the safety of the students. Behind the scenes, new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems have led to greater efficiencies, and improved technology access is contributing to stronger student performance.
“Although there were many challenges and frustrations along the way, the goal to provide the best project possible for our staff and students remained constant from all.”
Angela Britain-Smith, Director of Operations, MSD of Washington Township
