The construction of the Chen Family Lower School brings all International School of Indiana (ISI) students ages 3rd through 5th grade to a single campus. New classroom spaces and the maker space support flexible teaching environments with movable furniture, fully programmable LED lighting, and access to natural daylighting for robotics, arts, home economics, and science programming. The new building facilitates hands-on learning, cultural competency, and language fluency and also includes a gym and performance space, global library, student and administrative common area, and playground with an “All Roads Lead to Indiana and ISI” theme. To recognize the different cultures represented within the student body, 30 flags from around the world are celebrated and displayed in the main lobby. This emphasizes ISI’s underlying goal of One ISI and also recognizes the school’s multi-cultural student body. The Chen Family Lower School represents the genesis of a shared vision started over 26 years ago by Indiana leaders who sought to establish a global economy and opportunity for foreign investment and global talent in the state.
