As part of the renovations throughout the MSD of Washington Township, the Centralized Bus Storage and Transportation Center was renovated and expanded. An existing maintenance center was already located on the North Central High School and Northview Middle School campus. When the decision was made to replace Northview Middle School in a different location, the site area that was previously middle school ball fields was re-allocated to enable the bus facility to be expanded, bringing the middle school bus storage from two different sites to a central campus and consolidating district-wide services onto one site. As part of this bus storage lot, a transportation storage facility was also constructed to house the athletic coach buses as well as operational maintenance vehicles and supplies.
With the consolidation, canopy coverage with block heating stations was provided for 145 buses, with the potential to eventually grow to 199. The surface lot for the buses was constructed with a combination of concrete and pervious pavers, providing natural drainage and filtering water into the storm system. Additionally, a 20’ berm/precast wall assembly was constructed around the bus storage lot, offering neighbors both a visual and acoustical separation from the facility.
This newly consolidated facility enables fueling and maintenance services to operate more efficiently, ultimately saving the District both time and money.
