For more than two decades, Louisville’s bus network remained largely unchanged as the city grew and travel patterns shifted. To support long-term sustainability and better serve riders, the Transit Authority of River City (TARC) undertook a comprehensive transit network redesign focused on equity, efficiency, and real-world travel behavior.
Schmidt Associates partnered with Jarrett Walker & Associates and a multidisciplinary consultant team to guide a data-informed, community-centered planning process. The resulting plan balances coverage and frequency, concentrating service along key corridors to improve reliability and access to public transportation across Louisville. Shaped by extensive public input and adopted for implementation in August 2026, the new network positions TARC to deliver a more resilient transit system that connects people to opportunity citywide.
