Re-imagined from its concrete frame, the Botsford/Swinford Hall renovation creates a home base for Emerging Media students. The renovated facility builds community and camaraderie while championing Ball State’s sustainability initiatives. Amenities such as audio and video studios were incorporated, as well as new lounge spaces and a demonstration kitchen that enables chefs to demonstrate skills and teach healthy habits. Engineering new, highly efficient mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology systems throughout the building resulted in a LEED Gold-certified residence hall. Highlights of the HVAC system include fresh air delivered directly to student rooms and the use of a passive beam (valance) system to heat and cool the student rooms. A displacement ventilation HVAC system was used for the multi-purpose space to enhance comfort and energy efficiency.
