Beginning with a community task force—consisting of business leaders, concerned citizens, teachers, parents, and staff—and continuing through a study and many meetings, Plainfield decided a new high school needed to be built. The new facility was designed for 1,600 students with additional capacity for 2,200. Serving grades 9 through 12, the facility includes more than 80 instructional spaces. The building’s core facilities—as well as the infrastructure and roads around the school—were built with the future expansion in mind. Athletic facilities include a main gymnasium capable of handling sectional basketball competition and a fieldhouse that not only serves for physical education and competition but also functions as a “safe place” to be used in an emergency. Schmidt Associates served as the architect/engineer-of-record for the entire site development, which includes roadways, parking lots, site infrastructure, fields development, and campus-wide building development.
