New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation
Green Valley Elementary School
Faced with an increasing enrollment, New Albany-Floyd Community School Corporation worked with Schmidt Associates to create two new elementary schools as part of a single referendum. Designed to be equitable, but aesthetically different to capture the essence of each individual site and community, Green Valley Elementary School now serves 750 PreK-5th grade students. The focal point of the facility is the cafeteria with 20-foot windows that allow sunlight to flood the space. In the center is a large treehouse crafted into the wall and ceiling, lined with green floating acoustical tiles designed to be reminiscent of a tree’s canopy. Stairs from the cafeteria lead to the media center lined with glass, enabling students to observe the lunchroom but not be disrupted by the noise.
