Lebanon High School had been functioning with one frictionless chiller as their main source of chilled water for many years. An existing heat recovery chiller was used for back-up, but it had not worked properly since it had been installed. Looking to correct the problem, increase efficiency, and add redundancy, Schmidt Associates installed seven new 40-ton Multi-stack modular chillers—resulting in 560 tons of capacity—and moved the frictionless chiller to serve in a back-up role. By reconfiguring the system in this manner, the Owner can bring each module online based on the required building load. The corporation has seen substantial operational savings since the modular chiller replacement.
