The new Wayne Township Transportation Center will provide many upgrades and amenities that are needed in today’s transportation centers. The facility will have a more centralized location and allow for more efficient bus routes. The site includes 26 acres, more than double the size of the current facility, and has much better access to city streets. The facility will provide ample parking for transportation staff, bus drivers, visitors, maintenance vehicles, and 170 bus parking spaces. Site features include a fueling island with canopy, site lighting, and pavement markings and sidewalks for safe pedestrian access. Solar panels are also being planned to save electrical costs.
The new building will include eight full size maintenance bays with drive through overhead doors, a bus wash bay, and maintenance support areas such as a tools room, fluid room, parts room, and manager’s office. Separate from the maintenance area is a driver’s suite that includes a simulation lab, trainer’s office, conference room, fitness room, restrooms, quiet rooms, and separate secure entry. The administration area includes a separate secure entry, several offices, work room, storage area, restrooms, and conference room. Another key feature of the building will be a large conference area that can be divided into three smaller conference rooms. This space will be used for driver training, professional development, and many other large group gatherings. It has a kitchenette and a large storage area for tables and chairs.
