With an increasing need for behavioral health services in rural areas, the Owensboro Health inpatient care unit has been transformed into a 12-patient behavioral health unit. Modifications to the existing facility ensured compliance with patient safety standards and system guidelines and encompassed various aspects, including removing any potential hazards that could endanger patients or staff, implementing anti-ligature measures throughout the premises, replacing bathroom fixtures, and covering windows with polycarbonate glass. In addition, this unit features an expanded nurse’s station equipped with visual monitoring capabilities. The layout also incorporates designated areas for group activities, quiet activities, seclusion spaces, and support services.
