Following a conceptual plan for the Eagle Creek Park Foundation, the Eagle Creek Earth Discovery Center was created to contain a sampling of the entire Eagle Creek Park within one venue. The facility’s site development leans toward sustainability, interpretation, and education of park visitors. Site design integrates materials native to the area. Construction detailing and methods had a minimal impact on the site and surrounding natural environment. A geothermal system provides heating and cooling for the facility and serves as an educational resource to the community. Recycled materials and sustainable building techniques reinforce the mission and vision for the facility, where people of all ages can learn about their interconnectedness with the natural world around them. This innovative design resulted in stunning reservoir views, educational icons, and an environmentally responsible facility for the City of Indianapolis.
