This addition and renovation project focuses on increasing capacity from 3,600 to 4,000 students while enhancing the educational opportunity, safety, and comfort for every student within the district. By enhancing wayfinding and creating separation and clear paths of travel for buses, pedestrians, parents, and student drivers, everyone will be able to more safely use the site simultaneously. Three new additions and substantial interior reconfiguration will touch almost every academic space in the building. The performing arts spaces will be renovated and the addition of new band and music facilities will allow more students to participate in the arts. New athletics facilities—including both indoor and outdoor tennis complexes and a new practice gym and indoor track—will allow more students the opportunity to increase their health and wellness as well as to participate in athletics. Finally, a major goal of the corporation was to enhance pride of place—making the high school feel more like a college campus. Strategically carving out spaces for a new gathering stair, coffee shop, art gallery, and bookstore will allow North Central students an opportunity to grow socially and emotionally as well as academically.
