As part of an effort to provide equity and equality for all middle school students in the district, the addition and renovation of Westlane Middle School provided an opportunity to increase safety by eliminating long corridors and hard-to-supervise academic areas. A new main entry leads through a secure vestibule toward new Project Lead the Way classrooms. A new cafetorium was also created to provide expanded lunch seating and a performance space with a large stage. The new construction allowed grade-level reorganization to meet contemporary academic needs. Grade levels are now separated into their own wing off a central corridor. Each wing contains core academic and resource classrooms, providing students a continuous, familiar environment that students only leave for specials and lunch time. The wings also provide areas for the teachers to collaborate and team teach.
