How a space is today need not dictate what it can deliver tomorrow. In fact, with the right combination of vision and ambition, transformation is more than a possibility, it’s the next chapter in the story of your building.
Now You Don’t. Now You See It.
What do a fire damaged municipal building, a high end professional services practice and an historical center all have in common? They had all arrived at a crossroads, in terms of how they could function more effectively to provide workspaces that would incorporate the values of the twenty first century workplace. Their next move is rarely – if ever – immediately apparent. But what is always clear to the Schmidt Associates’ Workplace Studio team is that the journey is far from over. In fact, it is about to embark on an exciting new stage.
In each case, we applied fresh eyes and fresh design insights. But first we pause to gain a sense of the space. This is important. To re-interpret successfully, first you must interpret what is there already, with patience and with sympathy. Then we challenge ourselves to imagine it as it could be. The re-purpose must support owners and users fully in their aspirations and with their needs. That means detailed and attentive consultation. We see our role as being to draw the next phase of its life naturally out of the building as it stands, and from its stakeholders, and not simply to impose new forms. With collaboration comes consensus and a picture begins to form.
A New Sense Of Purpose
The next chapter in the story of a structure can be spectacular. Or it can be subtle. A complete departure as it forms the gateway to a whole new set of spaces. Or a refocusing as its existing design accents are retained and restored and it enters a new phase with renewed dignity. In every case however, its owners, its users and key stakeholders will warm to the new sense of purpose that a successful redesign for transformation creates. To discuss the transformation journey for your space, start with a conversation.
