Project Overview
Schmidt Associates’ mechanical engineers were called upon to design a solar thermal collector installation at an existing high school. The final installation of 40 collectors was placed on the roof of the school and collects approximately 880,000 BTUs of heated water. In turn, the water is used to heat the hot water coil for the pool air handling unit, heat the domestic hot water system for the school, and heat the actual pool water during daytime hours. When solar energy is not being used (in the evening or cloudy days), all systems have electric auxiliary back-up power. The result is a highly efficient system, saving energy for the Owner on a continuous basis.
