Project Overview
The new West Perry Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library system focuses on a “bringing the outside inside”, connecting the interior to the natural elements of the landscape. The use of natural materials on the interior includes colors that mimic the environment with green tones and stained wood in a warm and comfortable setting. A living room area with a fireplace is adjacent to the meeting room; a children’s area with interactive play areas, quiet study rooms, a computer area, café/vending, outdoor patio, and quiet reading nook are also available.
The design, completed in partnership with HBM Architects, LLC, included highly efficient engineering systems and solar photovoltaic panels, off-setting 80 percent of the electrical costs. Early energy analysis was performed to understand how to balance the energy efficiency of the building with the size and cost of the PV system. Schmidt Associates also helped obtain utility rebates to offset costs of the systems in the building. Learn more.
