Deeply rooted in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, Vision Academy at Riverside needed a space that could accommodate 500 Pre-K through 6th students in a facility that could complement and integrate seamlessly into the surrounding neighborhood. Working closely with the staff and administrators, Schmidt Associates delivered a design that paid special attention to multiple learning environments and spaces. Each classroom has direct access to break out resource spaces. These resource spaces were designed with glass enclosures, enabling the students to work in resource rooms, while feeling connected and supervised. The cafeteria consists of glass garage doors that open to the east and west. When opened, the students have a connection to the environment outside that contains native plantings and a student-driven urban garden. The new facility is a successful collaboration between community and school where each can benefit from the building and its environment.
Like what we did? Let’s Talk!
“I knew going into the project that we were in good hands from a design stand point, but I had no idea how accomplished and responsive your team would be during construction and the unexpected issues that inevitably arise during any construction project. As principal and lead architect, Anna Marie Burrell did a fantastic job and went over and above to provide excellent ideas and service. Anna Marie’s knowledge and experience in building schools was the backbone of this project, and I was truly grateful to have her as part of the team.” I want to applaud your team’s incredible design and dedication to the successful completion of Vision Academy at Riverside. Now that the project is complete and kids are back to school, it is evident that your design team played an important role in our success in delivering a charter school that was on time and within budget.”
