Built more than a hundred years ago, The Davlan on Mass Ave, Indianapolis, was originally constructed as a hotel and was a part of the fabric of the community until it fell into disrepair, closed down, and was left abandoned. In 1999, the City of Indianapolis saw an opportunity to revitalize the structure, and Schmidt Associates was engaged to restore this historic building. The new space was designed with restored wood storefronts, keeping the charm of the old and blending it with the new, offering a prime opportunity for owners wishing to capitalize on the vibrant area. The new space also offers more than 50 different units for residents and usually operates at 100% occupancy.
Like what we did? Let’s Talk!
“Schmidt Associates did far and above what most architectural firms would normally do. They were a true partner in the Davlan project. Schmidt Associates took a very challenging foot print, and a building that had been chopped up into 123 small apartments, and designed 50 very livable apartments and 20,000 square feet of retail space while adhering to historic preservation criteria. Their response time was second to none. They redesigned a structural problem between two buildings that was a critical part of the project, which resulted in a cost savings and solved a second exit dilemma without slowing the project down.”
