Project Overview
As part of its ongoing multi-million-dollar commitment to end health disparities and remove obstacles that prevent underserved Louisville, KY residents from receiving healthcare, Norton Healthcare called upon Schmidt Associates and C.L. Anderson Architecture to complete an interior build-out for the Norton Institute for Health Equity. The newly created clinic, community, and education center houses space for social services; telemedicine; behavioral health; collaboration; community meetings; and corresponding administrative, staff, and support.
Quoted on www.nortonhealthcare.org, Kelly C. McCants, M.D., Executive Director of the Institute said, “The premise of the Institute is that health equity can only be achieved when every person has a fair opportunity to achieve their full health potential. We are committing time, talent, and resources toward this essential human right.”
Critical to the success of the design was creating a space where visitors felt welcome and comfortable. As a result, a fireplace and water feature were seamlessly incorporated into the facility.
In addition to the private offices and collaborative space contained within, the Institute’s core features a conference/multi-purpose room encapsulated by a modular wall system. This system incorporates smart board and writeable wall surface technology, as well as an integrated television. Used for educational and community programming, the modular wall system enables users to open the room to the lobby and accommodate larger gatherings.
