Julie Kost

When others succeed, so does she. This is the basic mantra for Julie Kost who serves as the Schmidt Associates’ marketing manager. Julie came from humble beginnings, but her rise to leadership mirrors those of many other women who began working early and learning the value of grit, hard work, and perseverance.

She began her professional career with USA Group in 1992 as a data typist before breaking into marketing communications and eventually earning a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Indiana Wesleyan University. Julie’s entrance into the AEC industry came in 2008 as head of marketing services for American Structurepoint where she provided leadership to the marketing services group.

As marketing manager | associate for Schmidt Associates, Julie leads a department responsible for public relations, social media, graphic and web design, proposal development, and industry relations. She embraces servant leadership through empathy, connection, and being a consistent voice of reason. With high expectations for herself and others, Julie is process-driven and provides organizational value by growing high-performing teams. By thinking strategically, creating overall brand awareness, and shaping herself as a trusted business advisor, Julie is working effectively to create an industry-leading marketing organization.

Outside of work

Julie dedicates her free time to many industry and community-based organizations, including the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Indiana chapter where she serves as president, and as a volunteer for Girls Inc., the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and a member of the University of South Florida – Digital Marketing Certificate Program Advisory Council. When not giving back to her community, Julie can be found spending time with her family, playing with her two mini-Aussies, Taz and Jaxson, trying out new breweries, going hoarse cheering on the Indianapolis Colts, and attending concerts. Her favorite music genres include hard and classic rock.
