Project Overview
The historic IUPUI Rotary Building is an iconic campus structure that sits adjacent to one of the new front doors of the university grounds. Critical to the success of the IU School of Medicine, the facility needed renovation to meet the needs of the future. The Schmidt Associates engineering team designed all new electrical, plumbing, and technology systems.
This work included a unique chilled beam HVAC system with a mix of floor-mounted induction units and ceiling chilled beams. The system was selected for its energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and flexibility, while renovating a building with minimal floor-to-floor height. By utilizing the chilled beam system, the spaces were opened, and the beauty of the original facility was highlighted. The building is LEED Silver-Certified and received an ASHRAE Technology Award for the energy modeling and optimization efforts that were undertaken during design and post-occupancy.
