Project Overview
The Decatur Innovation & Design Hub began as a collaboration between the MSD of Decatur Township and Apple to bring a digital, hands-on makerspace to all students and staff of the district. The renovation is located on the top floor of the original 1920s Decatur Central High School—which also currently houses the Decatur School of Excellence and alumni space.
The 4,000 sq. ft. renovation was designed to be flexible and open, while at the same time allowing for multiple activities to occur simultaneously in various groupings. The space contains the central glass “Think Tank” box with areas designated for quiet individual work, collaborative group work, hands-on exploratory work, and social interaction zoned throughout the space.
