Project Overview
Indiana University needed to renovate its Auditorium to ensure the facility was ready for many more years of service. The goals for the facility are to attract commercial touring companies and to provide a desirable first engagement location for touring companies before starting rigorous tours. Schmidt Associates designed and engineered the Auditorium with new electrical service and distribution, air conditioning, public and accessible toilets, life safety systems, and support spaces. The new electrical systems allow the house electrician greater control, making the house more attractive to technically demanding shows. One of the more attractive visual restorations was the refurbishment of several large, historically significant murals painted by Thomas Hart Benton. These murals depict the cultural and industrial history of Indiana and being a part of the history of Indiana, are part of Indiana University’s traditions.
