Project Overview
The Indiana State Fairgrounds master plan and facility assessment addressed multiple structures and connecting landscape—all reviewed and designed in relation to one another for phased implementation.
Schmidt Associates served as the team lead for this master planning effort—coordinating a multiple-member team, including national fairgrounds planning firm, Populous. Extensive facility assessment and strategic options for prioritization and phasing work were created built on the potential available capital, the fair’s strategic plan, and a plethora of user and stakeholder input.
This process informed the ultimate vision for the final master plan and will prove invaluable as state funding is sought.
Major capital projects to come out of this effort have included enhanced pedestrian access, new amenities, and the first major facility construction at the fairgrounds since 2015—The Fall Creek Pavilion (formerly the Swine Barn).
