Project Overview
The Hoosier Energy Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. needed a new operations center to consolidate their operations under one roof and reflect their commitment to lower energy use and consumption. Schmidt Associates energized their team and developed a master plan to accommodate these needs. The new space includes a crew room that acts as a gathering point for the crew to receive their daily assignments, training, and a space to complete their administrative duties. Supervisory and clerical support offices were incorporated to increase collaboration. A section of the building was designed for technical services and transformer repair. With vehicle maintenance serving an important role in Energy Operations, approximately 13,000 sq. ft. is dedicated to vehicle servicing. Lifts for different size vehicles, a wash bay, and a fluid distribution system were designed to keep the fleet on the road. Vehicle storage bays provide enclosed, tempered heat locations for the service vehicles while a separate enclosed tempered section houses the mobile substations. In order to keep the building comfortable in the winter and achieve a high level of sustainability, the building has one of the largest in-floor radiant heating systems in the state. The facility achieved Energy Star certification.
