Project Overview
Located in a community with strong ties to the Mennonite faith, and a music program that embodies the spirit of “making a joyful noise unto the Lord,” Goshen College was seeking a music center that reflects this spirit. To honor both the art of music and Goshen College’s Mennonite faith, Schmidt Associates and a national architect designed a 300-seat recital hall, modeled after early Mennonite meeting or worship halls with an organ and platform for music performance. The 1,000 seat concert hall was inspired by the great concert halls of Europe and a large lobby, highlighted by an art gallery, connects the two venues. Through a symbolic circular outdoor gathering space, the facility was designed to provide a strong student orientation to Goshen College’s time-honored traditions of music and faith.
