A unique environment for 500 to 700 students, Garrett High School needed to respond contextually to the community that grew out of the railroad industry. With a unique, one-to-one educational platform based on the use of iPad tablets at all grade levels, the media center needed to push the envelope. Schmidt Associates created a space that encourages cooperative and collaborative learning. The renovation includes a fully functioning television studio modeled after the Today Show. The studio is located in the center of the main commons with a glass partition wall that can open to engage the studio with the commons. At Garrett High School, student projects are primarily digital and can now be broadcast over large monitors in the common area. With this unique design, Schmidt Associates was able to push the envelope and build flexibility around the students’ needs.
Like what we did? Let’s Talk!
“The thing that hit home with working with Tom Neff from Schmidt Associates is that he didn’t start out talking to us about the building. He talked to us about education, about student needs and teacher needs, and then he began looking at how the new building could sustain that. Before we got to the cost-per-square-foot part, we had a full understanding of where we want to go. Tom took time with our staff and board and did a good job of articulating the plan. We were on a very fast track to get the design started and the project approved. The information and partnership we had with Schmidt Associates and our other professional service advisers were awesome.”
