Eli Lilly Corporation partnered with Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana to enhance the environment and the connectivity of Fall Creek for the entire community, while creating a Science Corridor for students and neighbors to learn more about their local environment. Schmidt Associates designed a series of projects, all completed in a single day with the assistance of thousands of volunteers. Invasive plant species were removed and academic spaces installed. The spaces developed in our plan included a countertop lab space, a labyrinth, birdhouses, seating, hanging invasive wall art, and a culinary garden with a shade structure. Our Landscape Architecture team created a diverse, native planting design to support the academic space along the Science Corridor. The plants selected play a critical role in filtering the Fall Creek waters and also serve an educational purpose as the students became highly familiar with the plants through their classroom learning.

“There is no doubt in my mind after having been through this experience that I would highly recommend Schmidt Associates for doing this kind of work with a community organization. We have the work product that is going to propel us forward, and we had a public process that generated a great deal of trust within the community for our efforts. I really feel we owe that to Schmidt Associates.”
