Project Overview
When Butler University needed a new facility for their College of Education, they expanded into space occupied by the Christian Theological Seminary (CTS). The facility needed to be renovated to accommodate future needs, while respecting the history and attachment to the former library space.
While stacks and more traditional reading and study space will be reconfigured in the basement, the first floor was renovated to be a campus/community education space. The new design includes flexible furnishings, writable wall surfaces, and multiple technology options to help users explore ideas and learn new concepts. Movable walls, flexible outdoor space, robust technology, makerspace, and break-out spaces fundamentally alter how education happens at all levels.
