Project Overview
When writing the next chapter of the Johnson County Public Library’s Clark Pleasant Branch history, Owners sought to create a world-class facility that contributes to building a stronger community with improved visibility and usability.
With a focus on learning and establishing multi-generational connections, the building, designed in partnership with HBM Architects, LLC, features include an adult learning center offering free tax preparation, tutoring, and ESL instruction, a teen gaming center, an interactive children’s learning area, a laptop kiosk, a youth programming room, a STEAM Zones Robotics Learning Lab, an Everbright interactive wall consisting of many colors and circular light fixtures. Dedicated spaces for studying and reading, group gatherings and programming also can be utilized by community residents.
Schmidt Associates completed MEPT, landscape architecture and construction administration work for the project with more space to meet the growing needs of Whiteland’s growing population. In addition to designing an energy-efficient engineering solution modeled after green design practices, the firm’s landscape architects designed a nature trail where patrons can learn about native Indiana wildlife and vegetation, and a community garden where public plots can be used for growing local produce.
The building was constructed on land east of U.S. 31, between Brier Drive and Clearwater Boulevard.
