Project Overview
When Owners of The Clark Pleasant Branch of the Johnson County Public Library began planning for a new building, they sought to create a world-class facility that contributed to building a stronger community with improved visibility and usability.
The building, completed in partnership with HBM Architects, LLC, features include an adult learning center offering free tutoring, tax preparation, and ESL instruction, a teen gaming center, an interactive children’s area, a laptop kiosk, youth programming room, a STEAM Zones and Robotics Lab, an Everbright interactive wall consisting of many colors and circular light fixtures, and a nature trail and community garden.
Schmidt Associates served as the lead for MEPT in the building. This consisted of air-handling, heating, and cooling, data connectivity, implementation of a motorized projection screen and wireless sound system, digital signage, an electrical access control system for cards and FOBs, and plumbing design, including a gas-fired, tankless, instantaneous water heater that heats on-demand with an efficiency of 96 percent.
A domestic hot water piping system provides a high-performing system that reduces run time, further adding to energy savings and an easy-to-manage mechanical room with wall-mounted connections. Within the family restrooms, youth program room and Robotics Lab, point-of-use- water heaters and remote sinks contribute to better overall design.
From start to finish, the entire MEPT design took roughly two months, and the building is modeled after a similar, nearby LEED-certified facility.
