Ball State University needed to renovate and update its residence hall that serves as a home base for its Emerging Media students. The goal of the space was for Schmidt Associates and SCB to build community and camaraderie while championing Ball State’s sustainability initiative. The new Botsford/Swinford Halls offer environmental empathy for eco-conscious minded millennials on campus, and the surrounding community. To serve this unique population, amenities such as audio and video production studios will be incorporated throughout the building, as well as new lounge spaces featuring a demonstration kitchen—enabling guest chefs to come in and demonstrate skills including healthy eating and unique cooking styles. Demolished to its concrete frame and foundations, the new facility was designed for LEED Silver certification and received LEED Gold certification.
