Ball State University wanted to renovate and update its 1960’s era dormitory. The goal of the facility was for Schmidt Associates and SCB to build community and camaraderie while championing Ball State’s sustainability initiative. The new Botsford/Swinford Residence Hall provides a technology rich living-learning environment for its emerging media students. To serve this unique population, amenities such as audio and video production studios are incorporated throughout the building, as well as new central lounge space featuring a demonstration kitchen—enabling guest chefs to come in and demonstrate skills including healthy eating and unique cooking styles. Demolished to its concrete frame and foundations, the new facility has received LEED Gold certification.
