Project Overview
The City of Bloomington needed to repair the Bloomington Utilities Building after the original building succumbed to fire damage. The fire necessitated tearing down a portion of the original building, renovating the remaining facility, and adding to the front of the building to make it suitable for business again. Springing to action, Schmidt Associates brought forth a design to incorporate the standing facility and create additional space around it. The renovated site was designed with a new open space concept to encourage communication between the community and employees. Adding to the open space are the skylights that provide natural light and produce a bridge in design from the rain garden and natural plantings, to the modern space inside.
