Construction Administration

Schmidt Associates is looking for a dynamic individual to join the organization in a Construction Administration Management capacity.

Qualifications:

Ability to provide leadership in the construction process with applied experience to drive construction through Design and Construction Phases.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Strategies – Participate in design discussions from cost and construction perspective. Advise on construction sequencing to meet Owner’s schedule. Develop and implement strategies to complete construction on schedule.
  • Design Phase – Provide a Quality Assurance Checkpoint during key Design and Construction Documentation Mileposts. Provide Constructability input during Design and Documentation. Serve as a technical / construction resource to the Project Team.
  • Construction Phase – Function as the Contractor’s primary daily contact. Monitor the construction schedule and identify any conditions which may cause a delay in completion. Lead construction coordination meetings.  Issue agendas and meeting notes. Observe tests required by the Contract Documents. Coordinate with the Project Manager design disciplines for submittal review. Review all Contractor submittals, claims and pay requests.  Review recommended action with Project Manager.   Receive Contractor’s R.F.I.’s, obtain answers from appropriate sources and issue A.S.I.’s. Initiate and issue Change Request and Change Orders.
    • This includes:
      • Obtaining technical descriptions and drawings from Architects / Engineers.
      • Maintaining Proposal Request / Change Order Log.
      • Reviewing Contractor quotations, obtaining Architect / Engineer comments, and preparing recommendations.
      • Obtaining Project Manager / Owner authorization to proceed with Change and issue Change Order.
  • Full Time On-Site Representation (Optional Service) – Represent the Owner by maintaining a site office to review construction progress and compliance to the design. Maintain a log of daily activities at the site. Maintain a field set of Construction Documents indicating installed conditions. Maintain a field shop-drawing file.

Experience/Education:

  • 8-10 years of Construction Administration experience
  • Experience in an AE or Construction Firm preferred
  • MEP a plus

Project Architect

Schmidt Associates is looking for a dynamic individual to join the organization in a Graduate Architect or Project Architect capacity.

Qualifications:

To be responsible for providing design coordination and technical leadership to the Project Team for all phases of a Project. Ability to plan and meet project budget and deadlines, the ability to lead a project team, and a holistic understanding of design and construction process while maintaining quality standards and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Project Manager in developing Project delivery strategies.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Monitor and update through the design process.
  • Coordinate and direct the Project Team to conduct site analysis, building analysis, code analysis, and systems analysis.
  • Ensure that the Project Team evaluates, and as agreed upon with the Owner, incorporates sustainable, high performance, and/or LEED elements into the design.
  • Prepare alternative design solutions.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the design with the Project Team.
  • Ensure that Owner criteria are being met by all disciplines.
  • Ensure that project deliverables, documents and schedules, are being met by the Project Team.

Experience/Education:

  • A Master’s Degree in Architecture
  • Individual should have a 0-5 years’ experience

Graduate Mechanical Engineer or Electrical Engineer

Schmidt Associates is looking for a current student and/or recent graduate from an accredited university to be a proactive member of the project team by providing Engineering support through all phases of a project. This role would help implement and practice Engineering industry standards within the firm’s design process. The ideal candidate has interest in the building sciences – particularly the architectural/engineering industry. The ideal candidate must to able to work with and meet deadlines with the ability to implement quality procedures

Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering construction documents including drawings and specifications
  • Coordinate design efforts across disciplines
  • Review engineering codes
  • Review contractor submittals
  • Assist and coordinate with construction administration

Experience/Education

  • Current student or recent graduate from a school of engineering – Bachelor or Master’s degree Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy
  • Experience with MS Excel highly desired (particularly Macros)
  • AutoDesk – REVIT – Building Information Modeling (BIM) highly desired

REVIT/BIM Technician with CAD-Vantage

Student Interns

We are seeking student interns for:
  • Architecture
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Engineering

Student interns will work directly with Project Managers and Project Architects to receive direction on daily project activities. This is included, but not limited to, creating conceptual project renderings, maps, and updates to Building Information Modeling. The intent of the internship is to provide the student with applicable, hands-on experience to better prepare for entering the work force upon graduation.
